This trail follows the path that was once used to launch wood rafts of lumber for transport downstream to Rochester. The climb back to the start is difficult but short. The trail starts off the Gorge Trail near the Footbridge Nature Shop, past cabin area B.
Kayakers will often use the southern river access point as a put-in.
