Tamien Trail is found at the 3.1 mile mark along Washburn Trail, which is the highest point along Washburn Trail. A high grassy ridge runs southwest from this Washburn Trail high point. Tamien Trail follows this ridge top as it descends.

Turn southwest off Washburn Trail to hike Tamien Trail. Initially, the trail descends gradually, but then some steeper descents are reached. The trail continually descends on the ridge top, becoming fainter and fainter until it eventually can't be seen after about 0.7 miles. The views are amazing in all directions from this ridge top trail.
