The Carriage Road which leads to the parking lot for this trail is open daily 9am-6pm. The 6pm gate closure is very strict. Also the Carriage Road closes November 15th for the winter. If the road is closed you can hike up the road (or other trails in the area) to access this trail.

Need to Know

Gate hours are very strict, pay attention to the signs.

Description

Park at the lot at the top of the Carriage Road. The gate hours are very strict please pay attention to the signs. Starting from just a bit off the parking lot you have basically a three way fork to get up Belknap Mountain. Red, Blue and Green trails are all very similar with slightly varying lengths.

This trail, the Red trail, is marked with Red blazes. It is generally well-maintained and well-marked. You'll occasionally come across built-in steps and occasional wet areas where water flows along or across the trail depending on the season. You'll have some partial views to the east about 0.6 miles from the trailhead otherwise fairly uneventful to the summit.

At the summit, the only option if you want views is to climb the fire tower. Spice it up and take a different trail down.
