Description

Edwards Loop Trail begins at a large cow gate on the south side of Mt. Hamilton Road. After going through the gate, the trail heads up into the grass hills, with a small creek valley to the left, Doing a switchback U-turn at the 0.1 mile mark, the creek valley is left behind as the trail climbs and winds around on the grassy slopes. Climbing higher, views to the northeast, across the valley to more high Diablo Range hills, emerge. Historic Washburn Barn and Grant Lake can be seen in the valley. A few more bends and the trail reaches its high point at the 0.9 mile mark.

Past its high point, Edwards Loop Trail begins a gradual descent to its end point. Along the way another creek valley is briefly followed, to the right, below the trail, at the 1.0 mile mark. Heron Trail is then passed at the 1.25 mile mark.

Passing Heron Trail, continuing on in the grass hills, Edwards Loop Trail begins a gradual loop to the left that will eventually bring it back to Mt. Hamilton Rd. As the trail loops around the hill to the left, and wooded valley to the right, another large cow gate is reached. This one may be locked, and so one may need to climb over it. After the cow gate, as the trail continues to descend, it goes through a short wooded section, turns right, crosses a small field and ends at Mt. Hamilton Rd. about 0.3 miles from its starting point.

Flora & Fauna
