Overview
For visitors and locals alike, this looping hike provides a complete route through Camel's Back Park and Hull's Gulch for some short and sweet elevation gain to get the blood flowing. With easy access from town, it should come as no surprise that these trails see good usage, which means they are easy to follow, with good footing, and seldom empty.
Camel's Back Park proper, toward the Historic North End, is a great spot to hang out when the weather is nice and is often the location for concerts and outdoor events.
Description
From Camel's Back Park proper, head east toward and past the tennis courts toward the corner of 9th and Heron. Here, you'll find the start of the
Camels Back Trail which provides the looping, uphill climb up the nose toward the
Camels Back Ridge Trail along the ridgeback. It can be hard to follow which trail you're on, but just continue north, generally following the ridgeback.
Just before the half-mile point, head east (right) downhill on the
15th Street Trail to connect with the
Red Fox Trail #36. Turn left (northeast) on the
Red Fox Trail #36 for a quick loop to the south of the water tower, connecting with and taking the
Chickadee Ridge #36A trail back toward the trailhead with a final stretch on the
Red-Winged Blackbird Trail #35A.
Flora & Fauna
California quail, balsamroot.
