This park has a perimeter walking path as well as an interesting diagonal cut through the middle. The park was rededicated from "East Park" to Military Park on October 5, 1899 when a Civil War-era cannon was presented to Mayor George W Young for the City of Newton.

There is also a Steam Locomotive in the park, Santa Fe 1880 that was dedicated to the city in 1956 and on display under a very nice shelter to protect it.
