Description

The Red Trail begins at the 60 Westledge Area, crosses Hop Brook, and heads north along the ridge of West Mountain. About a half mile up, the trail crosses the entrance to The Master's School. At a mile, there is a split for the Green Trail, which offers an alternate route to a secondary peak and reconnects with the main trail about a quarter mile ahead.

The trail reaches the peak of West Mountain after about 1.75 miles, with views east across Simsbury. A steep decline follows into the Cathles Area (turn right on the White Trail along Bissell Brook to the falls). The trail continues north and terminates at the McLean Game Refuge. Bushwhack west along the border to the Blue Trail and head back south.
