Need to Know
Park hours are from 6:30am-8pm daily.
Description
Starting from the main parking area near the ranger station, this hike as mapped takes you on a route hitting all the major trails in the park. If the nearly 6 mile length feels too long for your party, you can easily skip the out-and-back trails along the way (
Sugarbush Trail and
Goldenrod Trail). If you do that though, be sure to incorporate a visit to Thoreau Lake into your hike, as its beautiful scenery and surrounding wildlife refuge are truly a special feature of the park.
Flora & Fauna
This area hosts an abundance of dense hardwoods, including beech, oak, hickory, and maple. If you're looking for a fun game to play with kids, try to identify these different species of tree as you move through the forest.
