Need to Know

Dogs must be leashed on and within 100 feet of this trail. If you don't like dogs it is best to avoid the Sandy River Delta.

Description

Confluence Trail starts at the main parking area near the restrooms and kiosk and ends at the confluence of the Columbia and Sandy rivers. This is the only trail in the 1000 acre dog park that requires dogs to be kept on a leash both on the trail and within 100 feet of it. This rule is rarely followed, however. Most of this trail passes through open meadows before it enters woods and swampy areas for the last third. There are a number of spots where you can spot the Sandy River and a few other informal trails leading to it. The trail ends at an elevated bird blind that is "comprised of black locust slats, list[ing] all the species encountered by Lewis and Clark during the 1804-1806 Corps of Discovery expedition" per the USDA FS website. The gravel fill on this trail makes it less muddy than most other trail in the park, but not necessarily dry after rains.
