Need to Know
Park entrance is generally free during cold months but $7 for Indiana residents and $9 for others.
Description
Park in Deam Lake Day Camp area. It's best to park in the smaller lot across the road to be out of the way of horse trailers.
Follow the short connecting trail leading from the Day Camp to trail marker 1 at the the intersection of Deam Lake Loop (aka Yellow Horse Trail) and
Tree Lane Loop trails. Follow the
Tree Lane Loop trail straight through the intersection, mostly uphill for about one mile.
At top of hill, turn left to follow the Top of the Rock Trail (right for the
Tree Lane Loop). The trail has a few small hills, a good deal of tree-fall off trail from tornadoes several years ago, but is regularly cleared of fallen trees, and generally is wide and maintained.
Several lookout points offer expansive views of forestry and Ohio River valley with arguably the best view saved for the end, one that confirms the height and steepness of the other hiking trails. The trail terminates at an imposing gate marking the park boundary with private property.
Flora & Fauna
Signs of deer rubs on trees, coyote scat and foraging, only a few birds in January.
