Description

A two-part trail threads through The Pioneer Mother's Memorial Forest RNA. One part is this hiking trail and the other is the Pedestrian Road. They are both open to the public for free.

The Pioneer Mothers Trail from the south entrance ends a little past the Memorial Wall in what was previously a picnic lot, which is connected to the road. Follow this road north if you like. Parking is much more obvious at the south entrance. There's some detailed history to the area on this flier by the USFS.

The area has unfortunately suffered some felled trees.

Flora & Fauna

Old Growth Forest:
"... Central Hardwood forest, which includes cathedral stands of mature black walnut, yellow-poplar, white oak, and white ash. Some of these trees exceed 50 inches in diameter at breast height and 60 feet to the first limb. This is one of the few remaining virgin tracts of Central Hardwoods in the region."
