Dogs Off-leash
Overview
The preserve has a variety of forest and trails. The contrast of hiking out from the close pine forest into the field can be inspiring during an early moon rise. Keep in mind that the terrain can be rocky and boggy in parts.
Need to Know
There is a restroom at the main entrance of the preserve.
Description
This hike is intended to give one the experience of the different ecosystems in the preserve. It starts with a hike on ridges through hardwoods like oaks and alders with an undergrowth of blue berries and sheep laurel. The hike then turns west and drops into a wetter section before coming into pitch pines and sandy soil with thicker undergrowth.
This then opens into a large field. You get a better sense of direction as the trail leads around the perimeter before exiting into a pine wood at the southwest of the field. This last section of the hike is thick with pines and glacial erratics, as well as, old farmer walls.
