Description

The trail starts with a steep set of switchbacks to gain altitude and bypass a set of falls in the creek. It then drops down to the creek where you encounter the first of several crossings at 875 feet, after which the creek is on your left.

At 1750 ft there is a second crossing that is easy to miss. After the crossing the trail climbs up and away from the creek for a little while and then joins it again.

At 0.82 miles there is a decent campsite and another creek crossing. From here on you stay on the north-side of the creek. The canyon widens and you walk through groves of pine trees. At 2.63 miles you cross the creek one last time and then start ascending out of the canyon through a widely spaces pine forest with decomposed granite soil. The trail is tricky to spot at times due to disuse.

Upon reaching the crest at mile 3.36 views of the Cottonwood Lakes area can be seen through the trees. The trail passes Golden Trout Camp Trail #529 and continues on to Cottonwood Lakes Trail.
