Need to Know
Watch for vehicles at every major road crossing.
Description
Wichita Section:
This trail connects the Canal Route path to the Wichita State University area utilizing a winding rail bed through the middle of Wichita.
North Woodlawn Boulevard to North 159th Street East Section:
A completely manageable rails to trails that just needs some signs, street crossings and limestone. This section of the Red Bud Trail is awaiting completion, but is open for use. While it's a doubletrack, the loose gravel that's on the surface is worn out as a singletrack; it's kinda interesting. The whole section is uphill traveling east, so it's a better workout if you head this direction.
This trail crosses five major roads and none are marked for safe crossing; use caution at these locations. In addition to the sketchy street crossings, there are several bridges that have erosion issues. Watch out for these.
Andover Section:
The City of Andover has paved a 1.75-mile section of the Red Bud Trail that is six miles away from the paved section of Red Bud Trail in Wichita, KS. The trail between these two paths is not officially open, but some hike it anyway. This would make the section from downtown Wichita to Andover about 12 miles long. The latest addition to the trail extends from 13th Street east to US54 highway. Sadly, the bridge over Highway 54 was removed a few years back and local efforts couldn't stop it.
