Overview
Enjoy some views, history and nature while out exploring the Musquash Conservation Area.
Description
From the parking area, take the
Landing Trail to access the rest of the trail system. First, swing off onto the
Overlook Trail which takes you to a nice viewpoint about midway along the trail. Continuing on, the trail descends a rocky outcrop to reach the
Betty Mack Loop (the main loop in the park). The
Betty Mack Loop features a mix of smooth trail, rolling sections, bridges, and patches of roots and rocks as it winds through the forest.
Follow the
Betty Mack Loop as it loops north through the forest. Take a right when you reach the junction with
Shoots & Ladders to follow it south through the park. Do not venture off-trail here, as there is a shooting range nearby. The trail is long and winding as it traverses the forest via a varied smooth and rooty dirt track. Enjoy some unique rock outcrops along the way.
Turn left once you reach
Heron Trail. Due to some past logging, there are sections of trail with nice views. Watch your footing as there are a couple of tough, rocky sections. As you near the end of the trail look for interpretive markers indicating old homesteads and two cellar holes. Hop on the
Landing Trail to return to the parking area.
