Need to Know

Parking is free at the Mt. Rose Summit Trail. Restrooms are currently closed, however. Once you take the first fork away from the summit trail, it gets much less trafficked and more remote, so pack accordingly.

Description

Park at the Mt. Rose Summit Trail. Take the Mt. Rose Summit Trail for 3.7 miles until you reach a fork. The direct summit trail veers east while the Rim to Reno Trail continues north. There are two more forks for the north loop of the RTR trail, or keep right (east) on both of these to descend to the Thomas Creek trail system. This can be connected to the Whites Creek Trail and Jones Whites Creek Loop as well.

Snowy ATM but no need for snowshoes until you get closer to the top of the trail. There are quite a few icy portions of the trail to be aware of. 9.2mi — 2h 45m
