Overview
This is a very nice trail with a recently opened (summer 2019) extension to Shrewsbury Street in Holden MA. The trail is very well marked in most places and well maintained. There are a few places that are easy to get turned around so follow the blazes/markers that are generally well spaced.
Description
There are small parking lots on each end of this loop so it could be done from either Farm access point. Round-trip this was about 5 miles of easy hiking but be aware that it is a true trail with occasional stream crossings, rocks, and uneven terrain. There are several road crossings as well.
Donker Farm is owned and managed by the Greater Worcester Land Trust, but the farm house and driveway are privately owned. I did not know this and had a great conversation with the homeowner but we did unintentionally and unknowingly go on to her property to visit the farm animals. The sheep are super friendly and loved to receive love--just like a dog they wag their tail. There is a route around the animal enclosure if you have a dog and they ask that you keep your dog away from the animals for everyone's safety.
Flora & Fauna
Stream crossings, wildflowers, interesting tree stands of many varieties.
History & Background
Parts of this trail were built in 2019 and others have a longer history. There are sections you're hiking close to a residential area, close to people's homes. Please be mindful of your voices and respect their privacy.
