Description
The trail does not gain a ton of elevation but there is some scrambling over rocks and rock hopping to cross the Crow River. Look for orange markers along the way.
From the Klondike Corner Campground, you head up the road that is just on the tree line on the north side of the Waimakariri River.
Eventually the road peters out and you have to make your way along the flood plain, sticking close to the forest.
At around 4 miles, you'll cut into a grassy flat. This continues another mile until you are funneled into the beech tree forest. You are now definitively on the Crow River.
As you rise through the river valley, the walls of the canyon close in on the river. Your river crossing is at about 6.5 miles where the flood plain shrinks and the river becomes defined.
Make your way quickly across the avalanche (slip) area that is a little over 7.5 miles in.
Continue another mile, and you have made it to the Crow Hut.
