Mountain Boomer is a one-way trail (ridden counterclockwise) for mountain bikers. It is also open to hikers and trail runners but users should be aware that bikes may be traveling downhill quickly in some sections. There is also a wet weather closure program in place at Rattlesnake Ridge.

There are no trash cans or bathrooms on site. Please pack out what you pack in. The closest amenities are about 1 mile away at Pinnacle Mountain State Park.

Description

Mountain Boomer is generally considered a mountain biking trail. It can be done as a continuation of Diamondback coming down the mountain or can be accessed directly from Cliffbrake (East Summit Trail) about halfway up the climb. Once you're on the trail, you immediately start into some rolling terrain and you'll quickly see what draws the bikers to it (berms and flow, mixed with some boulder gardens).

From the creek, the trail continues downhill until it reaches a big rocky ridge coming down the mountain.

After the ridge, the trail climbs for a bit. At the top of the climb the singletrack narrows, climbing a bit again. The trail then climbs through a rocky glade area right on top of a knob. From here, there are two lines down: a blue line to the right, or a black diamond line that takes off to the left and drops about 8 feet down a steep mini bluff.

The trail wanders through a flat section of woods for a bit before it climbs right back onto a narrow, rocky ridge. There are some cool views of the south face of Rattlesnake Ridge from here. The trail once again drops through rocky trails until you come to a split at the Tombstone Rock. A black diamond line goes to the left of the Tombstone and an easier blue line goes around to the right. Careful here as the blue line is still somewhat in progress. Both lines come back together and drop through some boulders before dropping one final time off the ridge.

From here, the trail smooths out quickly towards the road crossing. After you cross the road, the trail drops again through some boulder gardens. The trail once again rolls along out to the road. For now, this is all of the trail that is complete. Take a left here and make your way back down to the first road crossing of Cliffbrake (East Summit Trail). Please be VERY CAREFUL here as there will likely be mountain bikers on Cliffbrake who may or may not be watching for you.
