Need to Know
The Clark Street trailhead (south) is well marked with ample parking. The outlet at Freber Road, however, has room for perhaps one or two cars and is easy to miss when driving.
Description
This trail is part of the Link Trail system that connects the Finger Lakes Trail system to the Old Erie Canal trail. From the Village of Cazenovia (south end), the first two miles of trail follow the eastern bank of Chittenango Creek, before the creek falls off toward Chittenango Falls while the trail nearly follows an isohypse as it hugs the east side of the gorge. Several sections of the trail abut pasture and corn fields, affording glimpses of the creek and the west side of the gorge. The trail terminates at Freber Road.
Flora & Fauna
Deciduous trees (maple, black walnut) encapsulate the trail. There are occasional areas of marsh surrounding ephemeral tributaries. It is not uncommon to see great blue heron fishing in Chittenango Creek, and an occasional red fox may also be encountered.
