Overview

Parking at the main Jockey Hollow Visitor Center, this hike mainly follows the white trail called the Grand Loop Trail, but deviates onto the Mount Kimble Loop for a distant view of Manhattan skyscrapers.

Need to Know

Most path intersections have helpful maps and there are routes to cut the hike short if needed.

Description

Start off from the parking lot by going through or around the Visitor Center and following the paved path past Wick Cottage and through a smaller parking lot. Follow the mown grass trail up a bank to the left and into the treeline. A singletrack path leads to the white blazed Grand Loop Trail.

Follow the white-blazed trail through several short ascents and descents for about 4 miles until it intersects the blue Mt. Kimble Loop trail. Turn left and follow the blue blazes. Halfway around the mountain, the scenery opens up to the left with distant views. On a clear day, the skyline of Manhattan is visible.

Continue on the blue trail until it again intersects with the white trail. Make a left turn on the white trail and follow it until reaching a sign that points to the Brigade Trail. Make a right turn here up a slight hill to a roadway where a left turn leads back to the starting point.
