Need to Know
The refuge at the top provides hikers an opportunity to buy a small lunch. The refuge also provides outdoor bathroom facilities that are rather rustic.
Description
The first few hundred meters of the ascent are rather steep (if not aggressive), and less experienced climbers might need to pause for the occasional break to catch their breath. Don't be disheartened if families with small children pass you on the trail; the Savoyards who live in the region are rather accustomed to this type of terrain.
After about 20 minutes, the incline softens considerably and you'll find it easier to continue the hike towards the top. At the end of the trail, you can find a small refuge for overnight accommodation and snacks, which is open seasonally.
Flora & Fauna
A variety of wildflowers line the trail, which prove popular with butterflies. If you listen carefully, you can hear marmots calling each other and you may catch a glimpse of them running along the mountainsides. Be on the lookout for mouflons and chamois, too.
