Family Friendly
Fun, adventurous trail with lots of climbing and scenic locations.
Need to Know
Be aware that the elevation profile for this trail, as well as many trails in Shades and Turkey Run State Parks, is very inaccurate due to the small, deep ravines many of the trails pass through. These ravines typically do not show up well on terrain maps.
Trail may be impassable during periods of high water.
Description
Trail begins at an intersection on
Trail 1 Ridgetop Connector. The first half of the trail follows a ridge high above Frisz Ravine to the left and Kintz Ravine to the right. There are many steps on this portion of the trail. The trail will head down into the Sugar Creek valley and intersect
Trail 4. Turn left to access
Trail 4 and Frisz Ravine, turn right to follow Trail 5.
The remainder of the trail is spent hiking up Kintz Ravine, the smaller sister to Frisz Ravine. In this valley, you'll come across sandstone cliffs, boulders, small waterfalls, and a ladder. Eventually the ravine will become smaller and drier before the trail heads out of the ravine and ends near Hickory Shelter.
