Need to Know

The upper half of the trail was cleared of deadfall and cleaned up in July, 2019. Additional work is planned for the lower section in August, 2019.

Description

This trail connects the town of Kingston to Emory Pass. It can be traveled in either direction or as an out-and-back for the ultimate experience.

The trailhead in Kingston can be found near the old cemetery just off the highway. Park at the old cemetery and head up the highway for a few hundred yards. Look for a sign labeled "796" next to a "Road Closed" gate. Head through the gate and turn left at the cairn and trail sign. Follow the singletrack as it snakes its way up and along the ridgeline above the highway.

The lower half of the trail has a lot of encroaching claw plants, so be prepared to get scraped up a bit. About halfway up the trail, it becomes overgrown and fades out in a few areas. Follow the cairns and stay on the ridgeline. The trail essentially runs parallel and above the highway, so the highway should always be on your left (west) when headed up the trail.

Eventually, the trail will end at the Emory Pass parking area next to the Black Range Crest Trail #79 trailhead.
