Parking is outside DOT gravel pit -- Mile 114 Glenn Highway. Hike up a creek 1,000 feet and the cairns on the right mark the trailhead.
Need to Know
This is not an easy hike. The steep, difficult-to-navigate nature of this trail comes from a 1,500-foot stair climb. Once onto the broad midsection, the trail disappears into the muskeg.
Description
This is a moderately difficult hike with long, steep sections with a magnificent mid-level shelf that is grassy with Tolkien-esque creek and landscape. Part of the landscape is a 5,000-foot high marsh in spring and early summer. The 'gunsight' is off to the right of the summit and broad enough for a bus. Mountain goats can be seen on neighboring Sheep Mountain. Grizzly bear scat also can be seen thanks to the high number of ground squirrel colonies and abundant blueberries.
Flora & Fauna
Dwarf fireweed, blueberries.
