Need to Know
Be aware that the elevation profile for this trail, as well as many trails in Shades and Turkey Run State Parks are very inaccurate due to the small, deep ravines many of the trails pass through. These ravines typically do not show up well on terrain maps.
Description
This short trail begins at the main parking area for the Punch Bowl. After a short hike on a gravel path, the trail abruptly turns left and goes down a flight of stairs. After following a boardwalk for a couple minutes, the trail makes a left turn and follows a dirt path on the side of a hill. The trail will now descend into Red Fox Ravine, just upstream from the Punch Bowl. Do not attempt to go downstream at this point, as there is a dangerous drop-off not too far away. Be cautious of the terrain in the ravine. While this is the shallowest and least cluttered ravine in the park, the creek bed is extremely slippery.
Follow the creek bed upstream until a staircase appears on the left side. Climb it, and follow a secluded forest path until meeting
Trail 9. Turn right on this trail to access the Campground and Youth Tent Camping. Turn left to go past the pond and return to parking.
