Need to Know
The trail is accessed from the town of Randa, two train stops before Zermatt. There is parking near the train station, but most visitors will likely choose to take the train to Randa or may complete this hike as part of a longer trek. The starting point of this hike is on a paved path inside the town of Randa. Trail signs along the way are marked with a picture of a hanging bridge and include times rather than distances. The times are mostly accurate for an average hiker: plan around 4 hours to complete the loop.
Description
This is a popular trail that leads to a famous landmark. The suspension bridge is nearly 500 meters long and provides beautiful views of some of the surrounding scenery. The hike to access the bridge is steep from both sides of the loop. The maps, trail markers, etc. all recommend completing the loop by starting to the right (south) and crossing the bridge from south to north.
The trail heads steeply up through a forest and remains steep almost the whole way. There are some views through the trees on the way up but the best views are from the bridge. The Europa Hut (not included on this loop) is only a few hundred meters uphill from the northern access point to the suspension bridge.
