Overview

This is a hike that takes a person past some major Spring Mountain features to one of the best viewpoints in the area. The initial ascent is to the 'meadow' area on the North Loop trail, then to the 3,000-year-old bristlecone pine called Raintree and past the Mummy Springs. The climbs and traverses of the final sections bring the hiker to the top of the toe where all the major peaks in the area can be seen in all their grandeur, including Harris, Griffith, and Charleston.

Need to Know

Parking at the Charleston Peak Trail North Loop trailhead can get busy, especially on weekends.

Description

This hike follows the well-known Charleston Peak Trail North Loop up to the Raintree. At this point, turn right towards Mummy Springs rather than continue up the North Loop. The trail follows the contours past Mummy Springs before turning back up some switchbacks.

After a while, the trail becomes loose and very steep dirt before arriving at a rock wall. The best route from there goes along a flat-ish area beneath a wall until there is an opportunity to turn right up a pine needle-strewn gully to join a trail. This can be followed up to the peak of Mummy's Toe where great views all around can be found.
