Restrooms are just down the road from the trail start. Indian Lodge at the end of the road, deep in the park, has a restaurant.

The trail starts next to the wildlife viewing area with a nice big copper-looking sign. The trail immediately launches into a steep incline gaining about 200 feet in 0.4 miles. Once at the top where the grade begins to lessen, the trail opens up to stunning views of the valleys and mountains off in the distance.

The McDonald Observatory is also in view at the top. At this point, the trail has a soft decline for approximately 0.25 miles before starting the steeper descent, using switchbacks, to the bottom. Once at the bottom of the hill, the trail ends approximately where the Headquarters Trail starts.
