Description
There are many ways up Cabot and Ingalls, but the easiest to find starts at Philbrook Farm Inn and climbs the dirt road past some cabins before entering the pine forest. Following the
Blue Trail or
Red Trail from here will take you to the same point. The trail gets steeper as you go on eventually climbing a very steep section at the edge of some recently logged hillside. The summit of Cabot has several ledges with views to the east and west located slightly off-trail (finding them is half the fun!).
From the summit of Cabot, descend to a col and join the Scudder Trail. Bear north-east and follow a very technical trail across rocks and ledges as you climb the long summit ridge of Mt. Ingalls. The summit itself is wooded, but there are several decent views along the way. A little bit beyond the 2242 ft summit lies the small, secluded Ray's Pond.
