Description
This rural trail offers a historic route through the Cowpens National Battlefield, a unit of the National Park System. The trail travels along the historic Green River Road that both armies in the Revolutionary War used to march to battle. The trail also passes many points of interest including the Robert Scruggs House, the 1856 Washington Light Infantry Monument, and several wayside exhibits about the Revolutionary War battle site.
Soon after crossing Cowpens Road, the historic Robert Scruggs House will be on the left. The trail also features the 1856 Washington Light Infantry Monument and occasional wayside exhibits. These exhibits contain information about the Revolutionary War battle and commemorate the victory of Brigadier General Daniel Morgan over his dreaded foe, Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton, in the cause for American Independence.
Parking is available at the Cowpens National Battlefield Visitors Center (4001 Chesnee Highway, Gaffney, SC 29341.) Additional parking is also available at 3451 Chesnee Hwy, Gaffney, SC 29341.
