Black bears are common in this area. Take proper precautions with food handling especially if staying overnight.

Description

Named after the small Beatle Coccinellidae (aka Ladybug) due to their large numbers in this area, this is a fairly steep trail typically travelled downhill. The upper portions of this trail may be snow-packed in the winter and spring months. The lower section of the trail starts in Jacobson Canyon with more traditional desert scrub vegetation. As you climb to the the upper trailhead, you'll enjoy mixed conifers. Scenery along Ladybug Trail includes overlooks of Jacobson Canyon and views of the Swift Trail (AZ 366). To the east, the Gila Mountains and Gila Valley provide a scenic backdrop.

Went a little more than half way up and back. Encountered a lot of snow and would not be able to make it all the way. Such good views on the ridgeline 7mi — 6h 45m
