Family Friendly We took our three children and although there are some steep climbs, they did well and enjoyed it.

Overview

This is a really fun hike which combines two different trails. There are plenty of rocky places to overlook Hidden Lake on the Ridge Loop Trail and the view of the lake from the bottom is beautiful.

Description

The trail starts out flat and wide in a field and then goes back into a forest. The trail then follows next to a river bed for a while. Eventually, you'll reach a fork in the trail with a sign that says "Hidden Lake straight, Ridge Loop right".

Stay to the right (the Ridge Loop ends up looping back around the where the Hidden Lake Trail ends so you can do both). At this point there is a steep incline and this is probably the most difficult part of the trail. Once you get to the top, there are some beautiful views of Hidden Lake below. Continue to follow the trail around as it bends left around the lake down a steep decline and continue to enjoy the view of the lake.

This is all that's left of the old marble dance floor at Hidden Lake.

Gorgeous, winding portion of the trail northeast of the lake. I imagine this is VERY nice in the Spring.

Enjoy this view of Hidden Lake from the "beach" at its southernmost tip.

An impressive rock pillar stands along the loop.

An appropriate Vonnegut quote marks a bench near one of the overlooks. This is a great spot for a lunch break!

Also saw an unmarked spur trail that led to the eastern verge of the park that ends at a railroad track...watched a train go by from the bench there! 2mi — 1h 20m
