The Four Mile Creek Greenway starts at the intersection of Rea Road and Bevington Place and concludes at the intersection with the Lower
McAlpine Creek Greenway at Johnston Road.
Four Mile Creek Greenway in Matthews is a joint project between the Town of Matthews and Mecklenburg County that is an extremely popular destination to area residents. It is a 2.1-mile property that connects Matthews Elementary to Squirrel Lake Park to East John Street. There are several neighborhood access points along the greenway. Be sure to stop and check out the painted manhole covers and pipes and parks. Squirrel Lake Park host a large playground area, fairy trails, a lake complete with a dock and ducks and restrooms. There is also a rock feature at Fountain Rock Park with bubbling water that is irresistible to dogs and kids on the greenway. While the biking, hiking and animal loving community enjoys the greenway, wildlife such as beavers, white tailed deer and numerous bird species are also the beneficiaries of greenway.
