A fully serviced chalet is open during ski season. Trail passes are required for use of winter trails. There are no fees for off season trail use, but donations are appreciated.
Description
This route to McLean Lake is technically easier than the routes presently used, but the trail surface is challenging and the route is not immediately obvious in places. Following the 1985 fire, it was left quite exposed and barren. It was difficult to keep groomed in winter because it was always vulnerable to drifting snow, so trail maintenance efforts were concentrated elsewhere. There has been some regrowth and refurbishing the trail would be a great project for some young people!
Near where the trail branches off from the intersection with Chaulk's/Lynx, beavers have engineered the landscape for their own purposes so a detour is required!
For some reason, the Mealy Mountains seem much closer and larger while traversing Old
Chaulk's Run from McLean Lake.
Flora & Fauna
There has been considerable beaver activity along Chaulk's Brook. If you are lucky, you may see these busy animals at work.
