Need to Know
The chalet is open during ski season and snowshoe trail passes are required. There is no fee for off season trail use but donations are appreciated.
Description
The steep climb up D6 is completed, views have been admired, and the relaxing hike back down the hill has begun. Just before turning into the thick forest of mature spruce, turn right to complete a circuit of the lower ridge. The vantage point offers a completely different perspective of the ski trails below and the snowshoe trails above.
The lower ridge was almost entirely burnt in the fire thirty years ago and the secondary growth does not impede the views. Look back to find D6, the main route, and
Snowshoe Trail D6 - Upper View, a trail that goes to the top of the knoll. E3, as it starts up the slope on the other side of a valley, is also visible. From the front of the ridge, look down directly onto
Games Trail.
Flora & Fauna
The trail leading off D6 goes through a grove of birch, cherry, trembling aspen, and alder saplings, and then enters a large open area where regrowth has not been as vigorous. The ground cover is lichen with a lot of Labrador tea. On the ridge, there is nice regrowth of trembling aspen.
