Need to Know
This area has several unsigned side trails that are NOT on the park map. Be vigilante to stay on Big Slide Trail, especially at about the 0.25 mile mark.
Description
Big Slide Trail begins at the 0.2 mile mark along
White's Lagoon Road, deep the the mixed redwood forest of Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. When hiking
White's Lagoon Road from
Aptos Creek Fire Road, turn right off of
White's Lagoon Road at the signed trail junction with Big Slide Trail, to hike Big Slide Trail. From this trail junction, Big Slide Trail descends continuously through the forest as it goes towards Aptos Creek and
Aptos Creek Trail.
At about the 0.25 mile mark, there is a very obvious trail going off to the left (north-ish). This is NOT Big Slide Trail and is NOT shown on the park map. Big Slide Trail veers slightly to the right here on a less obvious trail. Watch carefully at this unsigned trail junction to stay on Big Slide Trail. After this trail junction, there are no more unmarked trail junctions along Big Slide Trail, but there are some places where the trail isn't very obvious. It appears to be lightly used, and so the tread is covered somewhat, but it's there.
Big Slide Trail ends at
Aptos Creek Trail and Aptos Creek, although the creek is far below at the bottom of a rather steep hillside.
Flora & Fauna
