Need to Know

Parking fees at the Western Ajusco Summit Trail are 25 pesos. Proceed to the lodge directly across from the parking lot to pay the kind family who tends to the lodge and trailhead

Description

This is a narrow, steep trail that leads down from the northern peak on the Ajusco Summit Trail. There is quite a bit of exposure and wind, but we didn't feel truly endangered at any point. From the black cross at the peak, follow the knife edge carefully down and split left as per the GPS tracks. There are challenging all-fours descents (or ascents if going in reverse), and this could potentially be listed as double black for the same reason.

Flora & Fauna

Prairie grasses, cacti, and other high desert fauna sprawl across the upper portion of the trail, which then winds into thicker woods before emerging into the woods/open space (doubletrack) near the trailhead
