Description
The Enclosure Trail is essentially the first trail that hikers will encounter when beginning their adventures at Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park. While there are many opportunities to branch off and explore additional trails, the Enclosure Trail will take hikers on a relatively flat and easy hike/walk/run/etc. along the inside perimeter of the ancient Native American ceremonial mound. The majority of the trail will consist of a dirt service road used by the park staff/rangers (I have confirmed that it is completely okay to utilize); however, there will be small segments that consist of rocky/root-filled trails. The entire trail will complete a loop consisting of approximately 1.30 miles.
The Enclosure Trail offers views of open grasslands, large oak trees, and a variety of wildlife (birds, deer, rabbits, groundhogs, etc.). There are a few benches scattered about for resting, enjoying a picnic, or observing the variety of birds fluttering about.
Enjoy!
