This trail is generally open year-round. On rare occasions, snow or ice can make the gravel access road (Little Appelgate Road) hard to drive. In the summer, this trail can be a pretty hot hike unless done early or late in the day.

Description

This is a short trail that connects Little Applegate Road with the Sterling Mine Ditch Trail. It is the shortest route to see the tunnel that was dug as a shortcut to take the mine ditch through, rather than around, the ridge. This trail can also be combined with the Bear Gulch Trail and the Little Applegate Trailhead to make loop hikes of varying lengths.

Flora & Fauna

Watch out for ticks between mid-March and early summer. Be aware that poison oak, which is plentiful in this area, is toxic all year-round!
