Family Friendly Not a lot of views but it is an easy, kid-friendly hike.

Description

This trail section uses blue trail markers and starts at the Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post. There is a worn area for parking that can easily fit 5-10 vehicles. There are no facilities or water sources on this hike.

Upon intersecting the orange markers of the Great Eastern Trail (GET) you can turn west towards Erwin Hollow Road which follows a reliable water source, or continue east/north and you'll eventually arrive at Amelia's Pond.

This trail section is well-used by day hikers and trail runners. The trail is compacted soil, well marked and well maintained. There are a few spots of rise and fall but nothing steep enough to warrant hand holds. There are not a lot of views but it is an easy, kid-friendly hike.

If you follow the orange markers of the Crystal Hills Trail to the north/east, you'll reach an intersection of the northern terminus of the Great Eastern Trail and the Finger Lakes Trail at the Moss Hill lean-to with reliable water sources. Following south, you can connect to the Mid State Trail of Pennsylvania and the rest of the GET.

There is a reroute at the beginning due to bank erosion. Sunny day, but comfortable. Good test hike with the pack and 6L of water for for weight. 2.5mi — 1h 21m

Warm, sunny day outside. Trail has some ups and downs but is well worn and easy to follow. Not steep, not muddy, not much to see. 4mi — 2h 05m
