Need to Know
Both Dolley Madison Library and McLean Community Center have restrooms, including handicapped-accessible restrooms, available for use when they're open. There is also plenty of parking at the library and community center, if you want to start and end there.
Description
In January 2019, Fairfax County completed a short stretch of path that now makes it possible to travel safely from, (a) the intersection of Douglass Drive and Baron Road to (b) the Dead Run Stream Valley Park Trail.
From there, it's a paved, stroller-friendly path (about .7 miles, about 25 minutes for us, pushing a stroller) south through Dead Run Stream Valley Park to Dolley Madison Library, the McLean Community Center, and McLean Central Park. The path crosses Churchill Road at one point, at a marked crosswalk, in a relatively quiet residential neighborhood.
The park (currently undergoing improvement to include stream restoration and tree planting) is a quiet and flat stretch that runs along Dead Run Stream and offers pleasant views of trees, birds, and some lovely homes.
This path is not well lit so bring a flashlight if you're out after dark. We found this to be a nice little walk with our young daughter, particularly when we need to burn off some steam - and best of all, it ends (or begins) at the library and community center, both of which have restrooms available during daytime hours.
