Description
Nice, narrow trail that leads through rocky, Ozark forest to a bluff overlooking the Kings River. The path is gravelly, with a fairly steep hike back out. There are some nice pockets of glade habitat with wildflowers.
This trail, organized and built by volunteers from the Ozark Off-Road Cyclists, descends quickly from the deckhouse through hardwood forests towards the King's River.
Once through the switchbacks, the trail winds around Ship Rock at mile 0.5, named by trailbuilders for its resemblance of a ship's bow sticking out of the ground.
The trail continues on through a glade area to a limestone bluff overlooking the King's River where as many as eight Bald Eagles have been spotted at once! The trail surface is mostly chert rock and drains well. The main trail is marked with yellow blazes on the trees, and the spur trail is marked with blue blazes. It is 1 mile to the overlook, and 2 miles round-trip.
