There's two shelters on this trail, for some reason.

Need to Know

Portions of this trail coincide with a snowmobile trail; please use caution when traveling during the winter.

Description

This trail branches off Dunbar Brook Trail, where DBT turns right and crosses the stream. It ascends a steep rocky slope into the forest. The trail is difficult to follow through the pines, but eventually it comes out at Ridge Shelter. The trail picks up on an old road grade and runs to Raycroft Extension Road. Though the DCR map shows this trail crossing the road and paralleling it, the road (to the right) is the trail. Here, the trail coincides with a snowmobile trail. While both road spurs will eventually take you to South Road/Monroe Road, take the one that descends to the left for the actual trail. It passes by the Smith Hollow Shelter, with the broken privy. It passes beneath some powerlines, and re-enters the woods on the opposite side. The trail continues to South/Monroe Road (shown on the DCR map as Raycroft Road).
