This trail begins at the Swamp Lake Trailhead at the end of Rd 1800 from Bumping River Road. Trail terminates where it intersects American Ridge Trail about one mile from Swamp Lake itself. Gives best/shortest access to Cougar Lake Trail after a short distance on American Ridge Trail.

The trail parallels Cougar Creek for the first half mile giving peek-a-boo views of some amazing waterfalls. The crossing of Cougar Creek at the half-mile point will probably result in wet boots and socks--no obvious dry route across. Swamp Lake itself (2.9 miles from TH) is much nicer than the name implies. Good place to refill water if you're going further up than the lake itself.
