Description
There are two parking locations, one on Mullinix Mill Rd at the trailhead and there is another parking area near the end of the trail on Annapolis Rock Rd (94).
This trail follows the Patuxent River and has a some steep gradients, rocks, and roots that can make it both a fun and challenging trail. It is a short trail, only two miles, but it has potential. This trail is great if you want to take a dip in the river and towards the end of the trail there is a rope swing into a swimming hole.
Beware, the trail is overgrown with thorny plants in a lot of sections so I would highly recommend wearing pants. There are also many fallen trees that have not been moved out of the trail. The trail has many wet sections that do not dry out easily being so close to the river.
Years ago there were more trails in this State Park, they have either been overgrown or possibly taken over by a logging company. There is also one stream crossing towards the end of the trail. I recommend taking shoes off to cross if you want to see the end of the trail or the nearby rope swing. I have included a picture with a caption of the stream crossing.
The trail is not as well-kept after crossing the street and is probably only used during hunting season, but still part of the State Park.
This trail has a lot of potential and could be made into a great trail system. I hope this trail develops into something greater, possibly through an organization.
