Description

The Lower Miller Trail start is found in the center of Mt. Madonna County Park, at the end of the park road. It starts at a trail post on the south side of the park road, in the open picnic and parking area. From its start, Lower Miller Trail follows the park road, past a parking area on the right/south, and heads to a large trail sign at the edge of the woods.

Upon entering the woods - mixed redwood forest, the trail is still on pavement for a very short ways to where the pavement ends in a paved loop. At this paved loop, a short walk to the right/south takes one to the historical Henry Miller vacation home ruins, well worth exploring. It appears he had quite a "spread" here. Henry Miller was a land and cattle baron in the mid to late 1800s. Perhaps that paved loop was where all the fancy carriages pulled up.

Returning to the paved loop, look for Lower Miller Trail continuing on from the left end of the loop. Now on soft, dirt and needles, the trail passes Tan Oak Trail almost immediately, and then veers right/south. Look for a long set of old concrete stairs on the right heading up to the Henry Miller vacation home. Were these the front stairs or back stairs???

Continuing on in the mixed redwood forest, Lower Miller Trail ends about a quarter mile later at Loop Trail.
