Dogs Off-leash
Overview
This is the second leg of the Welsh 3000s, from Nant Peris to Llyn Ogwen. This route avoids the North Ridge of Tryfan. There are three legs in total.
Description
The Welsh 3000s has three legs. This route covers the second one.
The navigation is fairly obvious to start with—go up the footpath to the right of the slate quarry, then follow the paths. Don't be tempted to go up to the peak of Foel Goch—it isn't over 3000 feet, so it's not part of the route.
Our GPS track doesn't go to the summits of Castel-y-Gwynt, because it's not an "official" Welsh 3000s peak. The GPS track to the top of Glyder Fach is an estimate (we left our GPS receiver on the path while we scrambled to the top)—pick your own route rather than following the exact track!
Don't follow our exact GPS track up to the south peak of Tryfan—we chose the most direct route rather than the easiest scramble. There are various routes to get down from Tryfan; we chose the one that avoided as much of the downscrambling as possible, because conditions were poor.
From the south peak of Tryfan, descend to the parking area to Llyn Ogwen.
