Not too steep for children. Fine terrain in a very nice natural area.
Connecting trail up to the summit of Twin from Pecoy Notch is currently closed due to vandalism
Description
Trailhead location is at about 350 Elka Park Rd (also known as Roaring Kill Rd) in Elka Park NY.
From the parking lot, follow the
Roaring Kill Trail about 0.3 miles to a fork junction. Take a left, up the trail with blue markers. This is the actual start of Pecoy Notch Trail. At about 1.0 miles from the trailhead is an area featuring chairs made from stone (called Dibble's Quarry) overlooking the summits of Twin (right) and
Kaaterskill High Peak (left). This area can be confusing, so watch carefully for the blue markers on the trees. About 0.2 miles from the end of the trail is a wide field/marsh area with limited views of the cones of Twin (left) and Sugarloaf (right). Finally, at roughly 1.8 miles from the trailhead, is Pecoy Notch, where the trail ends at the Devil's Path. To the left is Twin Mountain, to the right is Sugarloaf.
