Description

Descending quickly, the first section of this trail drops almost 1,000 feet in the first mile. Plenty of roots and rocks along tight hairpin switchbacks. Once down to the river, the remaining trail is relatively flat. There are several creek crossings on this lower section; a few are knee-deep. This section of trail can be very muddy after periods of wet weather.

To access the trail entrance, hike up the Blue Ridge Parkway, pass through the tunnel, then take a right up the slight grade to the trail entrance just before the second tunnel.
